چکیده

Catheter exit site/tunnel infections are a major cause of S. aureus peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Hence, the prevention of ESI and tunnel infection due to S. aureus is important. A number of studies have reported that the application of mupirocin ointment intranasally or to the catheter exit site prophylactically, reduces S. aureus ESI/tunnel infection and peritonitis when compared with historical controls. Some of these studies involving mupirocin treatment dated back to the 1990s. There are a number of recent randomised controlled trials (RCTs), systematic reviews and a Cochrane review evaluating the application of mupirocin which was effective for the prevention of ESI and peritonitis in patients undergoing PD.

• PTH levels determined using assays for iPTH and PTH(1-84) correlate closely. However, iPTH assays vary in their detection of C-terminal PTH fragments and values may differ between assays (Level lll evidence). PTH(1–84) assays that measure the full length polypeptide are reported to be more directly comparable. (Level lll evidence) For comparison of PTH values in multicentre clinical trials, t...

General comments in relation to bone mineral metabolism: • In Stage 5 kidney disease, serum phosphate, serum calcium, calcium x phosphate product and parathyroid hormone (PTH) level need to be considered simultaneously when assessing the bone mineral status of a patient: a combination of high calcium, high phosphate and low PTH level being associated with the worst outcome. (Level III evidence ...

The CARI Guidelines – Caring for Australasians with Renal Impairment Recipient Assessment for Transplantation

1. We recommend that obesity should not on its own preclude a patient from being considered for kidney transplantation (1B). 2. As a pre-transplant BMI (Body Mass Index) > 40 kg/m may not be associated with a survival advantage compared to remaining on dialysis, we suggest that the suitability for transplant be carefully assessed on an individual basis (2C). 3. As patient and graft survival of ...
